TV or not TV, that is the question

I am part of a discussion group on Facebook for business people who create videos and podcasts.

I like the group as it has some interesting discussions and some good tips.

There was a question posed yesterday asking for advice on ways to be more productive.

It’s quite a big group and loads of suggestions were offered.

Use a to-do list, get up earlier, stay up later, outsource some of your tasks, get a faster PC and my personal favourite (lol), visualise yourself working faster. The list went on.

The same bloke that asked the question was last week telling the group how he had binged watched Squid Games on Netflix and how he can’t wait for season two.

So, I waded in with my suggestion that he should perhaps ditch the TV time and use that to get his work done.

It was not the most popular suggestion; I think he thought I was taking the piss. I was maybe a bit naughty with my response, but my advice was serious and, in my view, accurate.

Anyone complaining about not having enough time to get their work done who spends some of the time they do have watching TV needs a slap.

And it’s not just work-related things. If you don’t have time to stay fit and healthy, or have time to expand your knowledge or the time to work on your relationships, then a TV should not be part of your daily routine.

I stopped watching TV about seven years ago, and I don’t miss it at all; I have never been happier or healthier and never have an issue around not having enough time.

We don’t have infinite time; it’s a precious resource. I think the older you get, the more precious it becomes. Because no matter how famous, rich or influential you are, you can’t but any more of it.

So if you want to have better in life and be more as a person, don’t spend the time you do have watching dumb shit on TV.

Now I can’t be certain, but I am pretty sure nobody has ever laid on their death bed, regretting they hadn’t watched a couple more episodes of Eastenders.

Take Care
